Health means different things to different people. True health is when all parts of the body are functioning properly. This can only occur when the brain is able to communicate freely with the rest of the body. This is a big job since the brain has to coordinate and direct the function of everything that goes on in the body. . Right down to every one of the trillion cells which make up our person. The brain is only able to do this when the nervous system is free of all interference and irritation. Interference with this communication can occur due to any number of the stresses we place on our bodies. Over time, these stresses cause restrictions in the joints of our spines. These restrictions are called vertebral subluxations. Subluxations exist in the spine and put pressure on our nervous system, decreasing the brain’s ability to effectively communicate with the rest of the body. This is when true health is compromised. A chiropractor is specially trained to detect and correct / remove vertebral subluxations through a specific spinal adjustment. This allows the nerve impulses to be transmitted freely once again to every cell in the body. This translates into increased overall body performance as well as heightened resistance to diseases and improved ability of the body to maintain, heal, and repair itself.
The problem with this is that most people are unaware that they have subluxations in their spine, which are compromising their health right now and their health in the future. Most people tend to see a doctor or chiropractor only when they are having outward symptoms. This is not a good idea because often, outward symptoms do not appear until the later stages of disease. The mere absence of symptoms certainly does not indicate any level of health. Right now, there are thousands of people who feel fine, but will not be alive tomorrow because of some silent disease process happening in their body. These people feel fine but are certainly not healthy. The silent problems, including subluxations are often the most detrimental to our health because we do not immediately seek treatment.
This brings us to the topic of prevention and wellness. The single most important reason that we don’t all achieve optimal health is a lack of commitment to our health. We all have an arm’s length of excuses of why we don’t eat properly, don’t get back on that exercise program or don’t go see the chiropractor for our regular adjustment. We’re too busy, too tired, strapped for cash and haven’t enough time. But the truth of the matter is that people continually fail to make their own personal health a priority. In doing so, they lack the commitment necessary to achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness. It is unfortunate that optimal health does not come without effort. It is however true that anything worth doing is never easy. Still many of us put things off for another day. This all too common behavior and neglect causes our bodies to wear out and eventually break down. Sometimes this is enough to get us back on track with a wellness program but often people get just well enough to forget about it and again run directly on to the next breakdown.
We all need to take the initiative to making healthy lifestyle choices and take the responsibility of making our personal health a priority in our life. See your chiropractor to have your nervous system evaluated and get on track with a wellness program. Start achieving your full health and wellness potential.
